YAHIA

Born in Batna in 1964, Abdelmalek YAHIA studied at the École des Beaux-Arts of Algiers (ESBA), where he currently teaches. He is a visual artist and stage designer who has worked across the theatrical scene.
His visual-art journey reflects a marked evolution, moving from a colorful abstraction to a formal and expressive richness. Over time, figures drawn from his imagination have come to inhabit the territories of his painting. Hieratic figures—strange characters, mottled and outlined in black—emerge and stretch within the verticality of the compositions.
The strength of the line, the rigor of composition, and the complexity of spatial construction give the work a distinctive density, revealing a carefully thought process and a confident artistic maturity. The artist thus achieves a subtle harmony between form and color which, equal in importance, nourish and dialogue with one another.
