BENHAMED

Bio-sketch

Noureddine Benhamed is a visual artist and filmmaker who was born in Tlemcen, Algeria, in 1984. He received his initial training at the École des Beaux-Arts in Oran in 2017, which he further developed at the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Nîmes in 2021. Unlike many of his contemporaries, he has developed a multidisciplinary practice combining painting, imagery, and spatial exploration. He divides his time between France and Algeria.

Through his singular creative approach, he seeks to fill the void and protect against the threat of absence. To him, this process is both an artistic act and a survival strategy.

Artistic Approach

Noureddine Benhamed is a visual artist whose work combines research, creativity and experimentation with painting, imagery, sound, text and objects. Investigating the space between the intimate and the collective, the lived and inherited memory, he transforms everyday details, gestures, and words into artistic material.

His work oscillates between documentation and deconstruction, exploring the tension between what is shown and what is left unsaid. Silences and gaps provide entry points for viewers, inviting them to reconstruct narratives and engage with memories beyond their own.

Benhamed’s process is lengthy and exploratory, emphasizing the research process and the emergence of forms that provoke reflection, emotion and subtle unease; here is an example of his creative process
